How solar installation works

From your first enquiry to a fully installed solar PV and battery system, here is the step-by-step process for farms and rural businesses in Scotland. Every stage is designed to be straightforward, transparent and entirely without obligation — until you decide to proceed.

1

You enquire

You submit the lead form on this site or call us on 0141 230 0198. We need your name, phone, email, farm postcode and what you are interested in — rooftop solar, ground-mounted solar, battery storage, or a combination. You can also tell us a bit about your farm buildings and energy use. There is no obligation at this stage or any stage.

2

We arrange a no-obligation survey

We contact you to arrange a survey at a time that suits your farm schedule. The survey is a site visit to assess your roofs or available land, your existing electrical infrastructure, and your energy use patterns. For dairies, this includes looking at refrigeration and milking equipment loads. For grain stores, it includes drying and ventilation. For cold storage, it includes continuous refrigeration demands. The survey is non-intrusive and typically takes an hour or two.

3

You receive a tailored quote

Based on the survey, you receive a quote for your solar PV and battery storage system. The quote reflects your actual buildings, available space, energy use and site conditions — not a generic package. If you are interested in interest-free finance, the available terms are confirmed at this stage. Interest-free finance is available for farms and commercial properties, up to £30,000, subject to status. You are under no obligation to accept the quote.

4

Installation by our MCS-certified partner

If you decide to proceed, installation is arranged with our MCS-certified partner. We install through MCS-certified partners, so your system is installed to recognised industry standards for quality, safety and performance. The installation process is planned around your farm operations to minimise disruption — we understand that farms do not stop, particularly during busy seasons.

5

Your system is commissioned

Once installation is complete, your system is commissioned and tested. Your solar PV panels begin generating electricity from daylight, and your battery storage (if included) stores excess generation for use when your farm needs it. You are walked through how the system works and how to monitor generation.

What we assess during the survey

The survey is the most important part of the process. It ensures your quote is accurate and your system is right for your farm. Here is what we look at:

Roof suitability

Orientation, pitch, condition, structural integrity and available area on your farm buildings.

Ground availability

For ground-mounted systems, available land, shading, ground conditions and access.

Energy consumption

Your current electricity usage patterns — daytime vs overnight, seasonal variations, peak loads.

Electrical infrastructure

Fuse board capacity, cable runs, existing connections and any upgrades needed.

Battery needs

Whether battery storage makes sense for your usage patterns, and what capacity would be appropriate.

Site logistics

Access for installation, working around farm operations, and any site-specific considerations.

Start with a no-obligation survey

It costs nothing to find out what solar could look like on your farm.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the whole process take?

After you enquire, we arrange a survey at a time that suits you. Following the survey, you receive a quote. If you decide to proceed, installation is arranged with our MCS-certified partner. Timescales depend on system size, site complexity and weather, but we keep you informed at every stage.

Will the survey disrupt my farm operations?

No. The survey is a non-intrusive assessment of your roofs or land, your electrical setup and your energy use. It typically takes an hour or two and does not interfere with your day-to-day operations.

Do I have to commit to anything at the survey?

No. The survey and quote are completely no-obligation. You are free to take the quote and consider it — there is no pressure to proceed.

Who actually installs the system?

We arrange the survey and quote. Installation is carried out by our MCS-certified partner, ensuring your system is installed to recognised industry standards.
