Frequently asked questions

Common questions from Scottish farmers and rural businesses about interest-free solar PV, battery storage, the survey process, finance and installation. If your question is not answered here, just get in touch — we are happy to help.

Is the finance genuinely interest-free?

Yes. Interest-free finance is available for farms and commercial properties, up to £30,000, subject to status. Finance terms are confirmed during your quote. There is no obligation to proceed at any stage.

Who installs the solar system?

We arrange the survey and quote. Installation is carried out by our MCS-certified partner, so your system is installed to recognised industry standards for quality and safety. We install through MCS-certified partners.

Is this for farms only?

Yes. This service is specifically for farms, estates and rural businesses in Scotland. We do not provide solar for homeowners or residential properties.

Does the 0% VAT rate apply?

Yes — 0% VAT on solar panels and battery storage applies until 31 March 2027. This reduces the installed cost of your system. We will confirm how this applies to your quote.

What types of farm buildings can have solar?

Dairy parlours, grain stores, machinery sheds, livestock buildings, cold storage, workshops and other farm structures can all be suitable for rooftop solar. We can also arrange ground-mounted systems on available land. Your survey assesses what is right for your site.

Is the survey really no-obligation?

Yes. The survey and quote are completely no-obligation. You are under no pressure to proceed at any stage — before, during or after the survey.

How does battery storage help a farm?

Battery storage lets you use the electricity your panels generate in the evening and overnight, rather than drawing from the grid. This is particularly useful for farms with continuous loads — dairies running milking and refrigeration, cold storage, grain ventilation and livestock housing.

What if my farm is in a remote area of Scotland?

We cover farming regions across Scotland, including more remote areas. Solar PV with battery storage can be especially valuable for farms with less reliable grid connections. Contact us with your postcode and we will advise on survey availability.

Do you work with estates and rural businesses, not just farms?

Yes. We arrange surveys for farms, estates and rural businesses across Scotland. If you have agricultural or commercial buildings and are a rural business, get in touch to see if we can help.

Still have questions?

Call us, send a WhatsApp message, or arrange a no-obligation survey — we are happy to talk through your farm and whether solar makes sense for you.
