What is interest-free solar credit?
Interest-free credit means you can spread the cost of your solar PV and battery system over monthly payments without paying any interest. The total amount you pay equals the cost of the system — there is no additional interest charge on top. Credit is available up to £30,000, subject to status and affordability checks.
This is arranged through our finance partners during your quote process. We arrange the survey and quote, and the finance terms are confirmed as part of that quote. You choose whether to pay upfront, use finance, or a combination.
Who is eligible?
Interest-free credit is available to Scottish farms, estates and rural businesses. Eligibility is subject to status and affordability checks carried out by the finance provider. This typically involves a credit check and assessment of your business or personal financial circumstances.
You do not need to be a limited company — sole traders and partnerships can also apply. The finance provider will confirm what documentation is needed during your quote. There is no obligation to proceed with finance even after the check.
How are monthly payments calculated?
Monthly payments depend on the total system cost, the credit amount, and the repayment term. Because the credit is interest-free, the total you pay equals the system cost divided by the number of months in your repayment term. Your quote includes a breakdown of monthly payment options at different term lengths.
For example, a £15,000 system financed over 36 months would cost approximately £417 per month. A £15,000 system financed over 60 months would cost approximately £250 per month. Actual figures are confirmed during your quote.
What happens if I want to pay early?
You can typically settle the finance agreement early. Early settlement terms are confirmed by the finance provider during your quote. There may be a small administrative fee, but because the credit is interest-free, the savings from early settlement are less significant than with a traditional interest-bearing loan.
Is the finance secured against my property?
No. The interest-free credit is typically unsecured. This means it is not tied to your farm property or land. Full details of the finance arrangement are confirmed during your quote, and you have the opportunity to review all terms before deciding to proceed.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a deposit?
Deposit requirements vary and are confirmed during your quote. In many cases, no deposit is required for interest-free credit subject to status. Your quote will clearly state any upfront payment needed.
Can I pay part upfront and finance the rest?
Yes. You can typically pay a portion upfront and finance the remainder. Your quote includes options for different deposit amounts and how they affect monthly payments.
What credit checks are involved?
The finance provider carries out standard status and affordability checks, which typically include a credit check. This is done during your quote process. There is no obligation to proceed after the check.
Is the finance regulated?
Yes. Consumer credit is regulated under the Consumer Credit Act. Full details of regulatory protections are provided with your finance agreement. Business finance may be unregulated depending on the structure.
Can a new farm with no trading history get finance?
It may be possible, depending on the finance provider's criteria. Personal guarantees or alternative arrangements may be required. Your quote includes an assessment of finance options available to your circumstances.
